Cookie policy

Last updated: 13 August 2026

This policy covers the CiteWorth marketing website at citeworth.com only. The CiteWorth application at app.citeworth.com is a separate service and is not described here.

1. Storage and access technologies

UK PECR (as explained in the ICO’s Storage and Access Technologies guidance, finalised 29 April 2026) covers cookies and similar technologies that store or access information on your device. That includes scripts, local storage, and similar access, not only files named “cookies”.

A banner is not, by itself, compliance. Optional technologies on this site run only after a recorded choice allows them.

2. Your choices

The first layer offers equally prominent controls to accept optional cookies, reject optional cookies, or manage choices. Rejecting optional cookies turns analytics off. It does not object to appearance adaptation and it does not grant permission to remember theme or language on the device.

You can change or withdraw those choices at any time via Cookie settings in the footer, or the button on this page. Withdrawing analytics consent is saved first, then this page reloads so analytics is not present in the new document.

Browser settings are an extra control. They are not the only way to object, and we do not treat them as consent on their own.

3. Categories we actually use

Strictly necessary

Required to provide this website or to remember your storage choices. Always on.

Appearance exception

Reading your device colour scheme and adapting this page in the current session, without remembering that choice, is treated as an appearance exception. It is allowed unless you object. Objecting is free via Manage choices.

Settings-based consent (remember on this device)

Storing your theme in local storage or your language in a cookie is not treated as the appearance exception. It happens only when you deliberately choose theme or language after being told it will be remembered, or when you enable “Remember appearance preferences”. An appearance toggle being on by default is not consent to persistent storage.

Analytics (consent)

Plausible Insights OÜ runs only after you accept optional cookies or enable analytics in Manage choices. It is off by default. We do not treat the DUAA statistical-purposes exception as authorising it on this site.

Marketing / advertising

This marketing website does not use advertising, remarketing, or marketing pixels. There is no marketing category in the banner.

4. Inventory

Cloudflare edge cookies (for example bot-management or Turnstile pre-clearance) are listed only where names and lifetimes have been confirmed in runtime evidence. Default Turnstile issues a one-time token and does not automatically set __cf_bm or cf_clearance.

Technology Provider Artefact Purpose Basis
Consent preference record CiteWorth (first-party) localStorage['cw_sat_consent'] Remember storage-and-access choices so the site can respect them Strictly necessary
Plausible Analytics Plausible Insights OÜ https://plausible.io/js/script.js (no first-party cookie; accesses URL, referrer, viewport, user-agent) Aggregate visit statistics for the marketing site Analytics (consent)
Operating-system colour scheme CiteWorth (first-party read of the device) window.matchMedia('(prefers-color-scheme: dark)') Adapt in-session appearance to the device colour scheme Appearance exception

Persistent language CiteWorth (first-party) cookie cw_locale (Path=/; Max-Age=31536000; SameSite=Lax; Secure on HTTPS) Remember language after the user chooses it Settings-based consent
Cloudflare Turnstile Cloudflare, Inc. https://challenges.cloudflare.com/turnstile/v0/api.js (production /contact only). Runtime 2026-08-13: no Set-Cookie; no __cf_bm or cf_clearance; hosts challenges.cloudflare.com and brunhild.challenges.cloudflare.com Bot/spam prevention on the contact form the user requested Strictly necessary
Contact API CiteWorth https://api.citeworth.com and https://app.citeworth.com contact endpoints Submit the contact form Strictly necessary
Contact API fallback CiteWorth https://app.citeworth.com/api/contact Submit the contact form if the API host is unavailable Strictly necessary

5. Withdrawal and Plausible data

If you withdraw analytics consent we stop loading Plausible immediately (via a saved denial and a reload). We do not keep using that technology for new visits. Plausible is cookieless on this site, so there is no Plausible cookie to delete from your browser.

Aggregate statistics already held by Plausible may not identify you. If you have questions about remaining information, contact hello@citeworth.com. We will not claim that a banner, or deleting a script tag without a reload, is sufficient withdrawal.

6. How long choices last

Analytics choices are stored for about six months. After that we may ask again. Expiry never turns analytics on by itself: an expired grant does not authorise Plausible, and an expired rejection remains denied for execution until you make a new choice. Objecting to appearance adaptation, and consent to remember preferences, are not reset because analytics or a future marketing tool changed.

7. Updates

We will update this page if the technologies we use change. A new analytics vendor or purpose requires a fresh analytics choice. A new marketing purpose would add a marketing choice; it would not silently reuse an analytics grant.
